ABOUT US

The UK Rifleshooting Range is owned and manged by Steve Rawsthorne, shooting instructor, writer, firearms consultant and registered firearms dealer.

WITHIN RANGE

Steve set up the range recognising the shortage of long range rifle shooting facilities in central England. Aside from membership facilities such as Bisley, there are few places for keen rifle shooters to practise their sport without travelling to Wales or Scotland.  Our range is located within an easy drive of Central London and the home counties making it suitable for a day trip without needing to factor in the cost and time required for travel and accommodation.

THE VANTAGE POINT

If stalking on foot is not for you, we can offer high seats in strategic locations where you can use your binoculars and thermal imaging equipment to survey the area and prepare your shot quietly when the opportunity arises.

Steve change this waffle.

SHOOTING CAREER

After a career in the aviation and technology business Steve decided to follow his passion.  Steve  qualified as a shooting instructor, also competing in clay shooting  around the UK as an AA Class shooter.  Steve worked at several shooting facilities joining the Holland and Holland Shooting School, London for nineteen years, first as an instructor then on the management team and pursuing  shooting and hunting opportunities around the world. Steve is an independent firearms consultant for private clients and for leading sporting equipment brands around the world.

There is something about the classic British bolt action rifle that speaks of tradition, reliability and quality, like a Bentley in British Racing Green. It is the fusion of age-old skills,  craftsmanship learnt under the apprentice system where a youngster still serves six years in the top London gunmakers before being given the title of ‘craftsman', which a machine-made factory rifle will never be able to emulate.

CALIBRE OF CHOICE

Lightweight bullets at great velocity are liable to fragment, have less penetration and cause more carcass damage. Conversely, a heavier bullet at say 2,600 to 2,700 feet per second will not drop dramatically over the distances we are shooting, say a maximum of 300 yards as a very long shot; 12 inches - I would suggest - is acceptable.

are found in abundance in the woodland and out on open fields in the farmlands we have access to.
